The Adams Dress Shop opened in October 1916 at 709 Hamilton Street by David Kins. The store sold high quality women's dresses, coats and suits.

The store prospered for many years. In 1947, Kins remodeled the store putting a white marble front on the building. In 1950, the store expanded, taking over the second floor of the adjacent property at 707 Hamilton and filling both second floors with additional merchandise. It again expanded, taking over the second floor of 711 Hamilton in 1957 and moving its business offices there, allowing more retail space to be expanded in its 709/711 Hamilton Street stores. In 1965, the company purchased the former Lerner Shops property at 815 Hamilton Street and renovate the building, expanding all if its departments and moving the store in May 1966.

The store closed in December 1983 during the decline of the Allentown central business district. It later became a Dollar Store and destroyed by fire in July 1994. Torn down and became a vacant lot. The building at 709 Hamilton later housed a series of businesses before being raised in 2011 for the One City Center building.

Kins retired in 1965 He passed in February 1984 at age 93.
