· English: Acropolis (Gr. akros, top, polis, city), literally the upper part of a town. The most famous example of the kind is the Acropolis of Athens, which, by reason of its historical associations and the famous buildings erected upon it, is generally known without qualification as simply “The Acropolis”.
Français : Le terme acropole signifie « ville haute » et désigne la citadelle d'une cité grecque, où étaient généralement situés les bâtiments emblématiques de la cité, comme les temples ou les lieux de réunion importantes. Il désigne plus particulièrement l'acropole d'Athènes, en raison de l'importance historique de cette dernière.
Español: La palabra acrópolis proviene del griego y significa ciudad en lo alto, es la parte alta de las ciudades griegas y de otras civilizaciones, ubicada en lo alto de la colina, donde se construían edificaciones emblemáticas como templos o plazas de reunión, y en la que se reunían personalidades importantes de la ciudad, para actos también importantes. La Acrópolis más importante es la Atenas que incluye el Partenón.
