A. G. Darwin was a local developer and president of the Allen Paper Car Wheel Company along with the Lapin Brake Shoe Co. and the Strong Locomotive Co. The present Queen Anne-style station building in Glen Ridge, New Jersey was constructed in 1887 thanks to the vision and effort of A.G. Darwin. Mr. Darwin proposed a deal with the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad: he would fund most of the station's construction if the railroad promised always to stop at Glen Ridge. A locomotive, built by Strong Locomotives was named after him.
