The building was opened in April, 1914 and is traditionally known as the J M Grimley building.

Named for Jeremiah M. Grimley, who built the property for his carpet store. The J M Grimley Company was founded in 1884 at 804 Hamilton Street. Grimley passed away at his store just prior to this building opening. After his death, ownership passed to his daughter, Sarah Koontz.

Koontz sold her father's company to N. L. Lichtenwalner after Grimley's passing, and the company began to expand into the furniture buisness, although the building at 730 Hamilton was not included in the sale. Lichtenwalner leased the property from Koontz and moved the buisness into the building.

Harolds purched Lichtenwalners in 1921 (kept Lichtenwalner name) after he got out of the furniture buisness and also leased the property from Koontz. In 1929, Harolds moved into another leased property at 810-812 Hamilton.

After Harolds Furniture moved out, Koontz leased the building to several short-duration companies:

  • 1929: Manufacturer's Outlet Furniture
  • Jan 1931: Allentown Jewelry & Gift Shop
  • Sep-Dec 1931: Frank Goldburgs Chain Bargan Store

In September 1932, J B Liebman of Reading leased the building from Koontz and opened up a new furniture buisness. Liebman eventually purchaced the building from Koontz in the late 1930s. In July 1949, Liebman's Furniture purchaced by Stern's Furniture of Philadelphia (Name changes to Stern's). Then in May, 1953 Sterns opened up a seperate furniture store at 812-814 Hamilton, and renamed the 730 Hamilton store as Liebman's Furniture (Still owned by Sterns). Finally, in June 1962, Sterns went out of buisness in Allentown and closed both locations on Hamilton Street. (Benesch's purchaches out entire stock of Liebman's, Harolds Furniture purchaches stock of Sterns).

Some small buisnesses used the first floor during the balance of the 1960s:

  • Jan 1965: Figure Tone Studios (Day Spa)
    • Renamed 1967: House of Venus Day Spa (closes Mar 1969)

In April 1971, it became Cinruss Creations (Closed Feb 1983)

In June 1983 it became Jaytees (Wickers, Linens, Gifts), which remains in buisness today.
