Symbolism

  1. The crest represents service in the Canadian campaigns of 1813 and 1814.
  2. The alligator symbolizes service in several Indian campaigns, notably the Seminole War, when the regiment bore the brunt of the fighting at the battle of Lake Okeechobee on 1837-12-25 (Report of Colonel Zackary Taylor).
  3. Service in the Mexican War with General Scott, especially at Churubusco and at the assault on the citadel of Chapultepec, is commemorated with a scaling ladder (in green, the Mexican color), by means of which the walls of Chapultepec were stormed.
  4. The chief, symbolic of the crossing of the Meuse near Dun, is the arms of the ancient Lords of Dun - a silver cross on a red field.
  5. The partition line, wavy, represents the river.
  6. The shield is white (Argent), the color of the Infantry facings when the regiment was organized.

  2. It was amended on 1922-10-01 to correct the description of the shield.
  3. On 1940-09-11 it was redesignated for the 6th Infantry Regiment (Armored).
  4. On 1942-05-16 it was redesignated for the 6th Armored Infantry Regiment.
  5. It was redesignated for the 6th Armored Infantry Battalion on 1944-11-13.
  6. It was redesignated for the 12th Constabulary Squadron on 1946-11-29.
  7. On 1950-11-02 the coat of arms was redesignated for the 6th Infantry Regiment.
  8. The coat of arms was amended on 1970-06-04 to correct the description of the design.

  1. The flag has a solid background with an embroidered American eagle displayed centered thereon, in Proper Colors.
  2. In its right talon the eagle holds an olive branch; in its left talon, a bundle of 13 arrows, all in proper colors.
  3. Its beak grasps a scroll inscribed with the unit motto.
  4. Below the eagle is a scroll inscribed with the designation of the organization.
  5. On the eagle’s breast is embroidered the shield of the coat of arms and the crest is above the eagle’s head.
