  • Crest: On a wreath of the colors a kris and kampilan in saltire Argent hilted Sable, encircled by a fourragére in the colors of the French Croix-de-Guerre Proper.
  • Motto: VINCIT AMOR PATRIAE (Love of Country Conquers).

  1. When this regiment was organized in 1901, the color of Infantry facings was white, which has been taken for the color of the shield.
  2. As soon as organized the regiment went to the Philippines, seeing active service against the Moros in Mindanao.
  3. The kris and kampilan, the Moro weapons, commemorate such service.
  4. In the World War the 28th Infantry was in the 1st Division, and was the attacking regiment at Cantigny, the first important engagement of our Army in that war.
  5. Cantigny is in the ancient province of Picardy, whose arms carried three black rampant lions.
  6. The regiment was cited twice in Army Orders by the French for distinguished services rendered at Cantigny and Soissons, and was awarded the fourragére, which is incorporated as a part of the crest.
  7. The motto is Vincit Amor Patriae (Love of Country Conquers).

  1. The flag has a solid background with an embroidered American eagle displayed centered thereon, in Proper Colors.
  2. In its right talon the eagle holds an olive branch; in its left talon, a bundle of 13 arrows, all in proper colors.
  3. Its beak grasps a scroll inscribed with the unit motto.
  4. Below the eagle is a scroll inscribed with the designation of the organization.
  5. On the eagle’s breast is embroidered the shield of the coat of arms and the crest is above the eagle’s head.
