English: In 2009 ferry operator Wightlink purchased two new high speed catamarans for its Ryde to Portsmouth ferry route. After the purchase, docking facilities had to be redeveloped at Ryde Pier before the vessels could be put into use. This was followed by a refurbishment of ferry terminal facilites to include a new waiting area and toilets and an extended car park. The work has continued into 2011 and is expected to be complete later in the year. Images below show the redevelopment works.
