  • Shield: Azure, an Infantry bugle of 1861 Or, enclosing the Arabic numerals "19" Argent, in chief three mullets of the last.
  • Crest: On a wreath of the colors Or and Azure, a rock charged with the shoulder strap of a 2nd lieutenant of Infantry of 1865 Proper.
  • Motto: THE ROCK OF CHICKAMAUGA.

Symbolism

  • Shield:
  1. The 19th Infantry was organized in 1861 and the principal charge on the shield is a reproduction of the regimental insignia of that period.
  2. The three stars commemorate the three wars in which the regiment has participated, the Civil and Spanish wars, and the Philippine Insurrection.
  • Crest:
  1. The crest symbolizes the great achievement of the regiment at the Battle of Chickamauga, 1863, when it formed part of General Thomas' command which earned the name of the Rock of Chickamauga.
  2. At the end of the second day (September 20th) there were four officers and fifty-one men for duty and the regiment was commanded by a second lieutenant.
  3. The strap of a second lieutenant is shown on the rock.

  1. A gold color metal and enamel device 1 5/32 inches (2.94cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Azure, an Infantry bugle of 1861 Or, enclosing the Arabic numerals "19" fimbriated Argent, in chief three mullets of the last.
  2. Attached below the shield a gold ribbon scroll inscribed "THE ROCK OF CHICKAMAUGA" in blue letters.

  • Arms:
  1. The flag has a solid background with an embroidered American eagle displayed centered thereon, in Proper Colors.
  2. In its right talon the eagle holds an olive branch; in its left talon, a bundle of 13 arrows, all in proper colors.
  3. Its beak grasps a scroll inscribed with the unit motto.
  4. Below the eagle is a scroll inscribed with the designation of the organization.
  5. On the eagle’s breast is embroidered the shield of the coat of arms and the crest is above the eagle’s head.
