The first DBR1, built 1956 as DBR 1/250 (2,493 ccm engine).[1] Le Mans (Brooks/Parnell) 1956, larger engine in 1957 became DBR 1/300 (2,922 ccm).[2] Then sold to brothers John & James Dawnay, 11th Viscount Downe and in 1980 had it fixed after a big crash at Silverstone in 1963. Sold to US collector John McCaw in 2000. In 2009 sold to UK shipping magnate Peter Livanos, major shareholder in Aston Martin Co.[3] UK licenses "296 EXV" (since 1960s) and "296 RW" (2010s). Oftenly raced by Brian Redman.[4] Auctioned for USD 22,5 million at RM Sothebys in Monterey on 18–19 August 2017.[5]
