English: The first, trussed eyebar suspension Point Bridge (1877-1927) was an award-winning design by Edward Hemberle, chief-engineer of the American Bridge Company of Chicago, who introduced a novel approach to stiffened chain suspension bridges. Construction was started on July 1, 1875, and instantly lauded for its elegance bridge was opened to traffic in April, 1877. It was closed in 1924 due to poor maintenance and demolished in 1927.
