Burg Steuerwald (Steuerwald Castle) is a castle in Hildesheim. It's name is derived from "Steuere der Gewalt" (Steer the power). The castle was constructed in 1310 by the bishop of Hildesheim to subdue the self-conscious citizens of Hildesheim (by controlling the trade routes to the city) and as a safe place for his escape in times of crisis.
