Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Oppose - 1) The reason for the indefinite duration is clearly noted above (a link demonstrating the Flickrwashing is in the rationale). More damning yet, on the Facebook post Xeyal is even asking the owner where the image was taken (!!!)--something he would know perfectly well if he were the photographer as purported (and doubled-down upon); 2) not mentioned in the block rationale is abuse of multiple accounts (see Category:Sockpuppets of Xeyal, especially Onyeddi and w:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Xeyal/Archive) and 3) this rationale does not present an understanding of the issue(s) or credible commitment to discontinue (inadequate requests very much a pattern). The rules I broke: Deliberate Flickr washing. I uploaded the non-copyrighted file to my flickr account as my own and then uploaded it to commons. Commons:Licensing I have read the rules here and understand that they are against commons. I used multiple accounts when I was a novice. I already understand that these are against the rules and are not correct.
I can assure you that I am here to give my valuable contributions to wikipedia and I can't add new free files of new articles I create while I am in block. After so much trouble, I don't believe that anyone will repeat this mistake all at once.
It was very wrong for me to upload a non-copyrighted file from my flickr account to commons and count multiples. And I am very sorry for them. Such wrongdoings were of course harmful to the Wikipedia community, and could also be considered misinformation.
Next, I will upload the files that are copyrighted to me. I will consult with the administrators about some matter that I do not know exactly. I will repeat the rules often. Oppose - 1) It is Confirmed that Xeyal was socking with Mr.157, Onyeddi, and WTW7. That they refuse to acknowledge this (" I disagree with the dummy account claim") is a default failure to acknowledge the issue and credibility commit to discontinue, our requirements. The linked meta CU was performed in 2022; the Commons CU was from 2023--they are necessary looking at different data; to present the meta CU at all relevant is disingenuous piffle and is consistent the manipulative behaviour of Flickrwashing; and 2) on that subject, this request does nothing to credibly acknowledge the deliberate Flickrwashing. As above, this is not an issue of not being careful ("I promise to be really careful from now on"), but a purposeful intent to lie.
