This script adds a "select category" button to the edit bar that appears above each edit box. This button can be used to select a category by browsing the category tree hierarchically.

installation

add a line containing includePage('User:Tgr/catinsert.js');

use

• click on the button to browse categories, click on a category to insert it
• select categoryname or [[Category:categoryname]] in the edit box and click on the button to refine a category (sortkeys are preserved)
• shift+click on the button to set a top level category other than Category:Categories (will be stored in a cookie; delete with an empty string)
