Hello, BRKY24!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Van_Collage.jpg[edit]

Merhaba,

it seems, that you used some of my pictures for your collage of Van

. My pictures:

,

and

. One of the reasons why I uploaded these pictures was, that you can use them again. But I applied a licence to it and it seems, that you do not stick to it. You have to name me, when you use my pictures. Currently this site states, that this was your own work. So please name the authors of the pictures you used and than everything is fine.

Selam. File:Deir ez-Zor Collage.jpg'in kaynaklarindan eksik olanlari doldurabilir misin ? Birde File:Homs Collage.jpg'in. Takabeg (talk) 01:39, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. Direkt silmektense, kaynaksiz dosyalarin (mesela Arapca Vikide silinmis olanlar) yerine burada veya diger Vikilerde KM olarak yer alanlari yerlesitirsen daha faydali. Yapabilir misin ? Takabeg (talk) 03:10, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File:Al Qusayr damaged buildings Syria.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

You mentioned yourselve as author and creator of this image. You called this file your own work. None of this is correct. You just converted the existing File:Ghana_-_blank_region_map.svg into the png-format without any need or reason. Please correct the file-description according the license-rules mentioning the true authors and sources. --Maxxl2 (talk) 12:02, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright[edit]

It is a shame how you disregard the creations of genuine wp-authors and claim to be the original artist beeing impossible to erase a simple text from a file. I strongly recommend to edit all files you ever used for derivative purpose correctly. Delete your fancy, misleading templates immediately or I will do my best to remove them whereever they are displayed incorrectly. I have never seen such an selfish, non-cooperative attitude of an uploader before. --Maxxl2 (talk) 13:29, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

 1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
 2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
 3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Pay attention to copyright
File:Atassi-quarter.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Thanks for uploading File:Samsun Province without Districts.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

hey could you help change a color on a map?[edit]

HEY!, could you help to upload a new version of the map File:Islam in Europe-2010.svg but with the color of ireland changed to #e8f3e8 ? i personally have no idea how to do this, and i saw you already worked on it so i think you maybe know how this works. i hope you respond, and thank you!--Joobo (talk) 19:53, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Well i dont know if he didnt like it if it got greener or not, or what the reason for the dispute was, it looked like there were some different views on the quality of the sources.
Here is a source i found regarding the nations of the EU at least from 2016 http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/07/19/5-facts-about-the-muslim-population-in-europe/. then you could change the color of the eu nations in case there changed something, at least ireland changed. and well the non-EU european nations you could just let it be like it is or look for other sources. would be cool if you could adapt it, i doubt that someone would have a problem with that if there are simply valid sources as this one, also i see your uploaded map is smaller than the other one, maybe you could take the bigger one as well if that works. like again im not in this, i dont know how that works, to change the map and upload it again, if i knew i would do it but i dont. would be nice if that could work out if you do it. thank you.--Joobo (talk) 20:13, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well, idk if it was because he didnt acept the sources or cause you took another mapsize. idk. anyway. but its wikipedia and it should be merely about accuracy nothing else. yeah would be cool if you could make a new map, with the mentioned nations changing. thanks.--Joobo (talk) 19:42, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Maps[edit]

Hi, I saw that you have made some maps of Syrian Turkmen but can you make a new map showing the entire country based on this example made in 2018 by the think-tank Katehon? It would be better like this because it is about where they traditionally live rather than where they are majority. There are also similar maps in Arabic like [1] and [2] Selçuk Denizli (talk) 17:56, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
