Goryeo is only vassal of Yuan (not a part of), it is adopted by Chinese scholars[edit]

I am from china and is interested in history. I think this map is wrong. in our history textbooks, Goryeo is marked as a country instead of a part of yuan. in Historical Atlas of China (1982) (it is regarded as an academic authority books of history in china), it also marked as an independent country. (the map was taken picture and upload here. Goryeo (高丽) marked as a country outside of yuan though it also marked as "Expand east province" (征东行省). in addition, some so-called "province" is exist in name only during yuan dynasty; such as "Jiaozhi province" (交趾行省) in Vietnam, "Champa province" (占城行省) in Champa, and "Myanmar province" (缅中行省 in Myanmar)). many we Chinese think Goryeo is a country instead of a part of yuan, these map of yuan are uploaded by Chinese users[1][2][3]. it prove what I said.

and I also noticed that there is an edit controversy here. the user @Idh0854: from Korea and @Wengier: from china, think Goryeo is not a part of yuan in that time. And in Korean Wikipedia, article ko:원나라 also not use that file; them use [4], marked Goryeo as vassal. so Goryeo is considered as a country in both china and korea, we'd better adopted it.another discussion is started in English Wikipedia here.[5]--122.90.84.169 04:35, 24 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@122.90.84.169: I am of the same opinion. Thanks. --Idh0854 (talk) 11:57, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And I'd hoped to talk to talk about other Yuan's category (Category:Maps of the Mongol Empire and Category:Maps of the Yuan Dynasty etc) and image (File:Mongol Empire map 2.gif and File:Das Mongolenreich unter den Erben Dschingis Khans.GIF etc). While I might have thought that Goryeo was not a part of Yuan many years ago (before this discussion took place), I do not really think so any more. Depending on the actual nature of its rule, a vassal of Yuan can be considered part of Yuan as well (as a semi-autonomous vassal state). For example, Tibet (under House of Sakya at the time) was also a vassal of Yuan, but it was also considered a part of it since Yuan had political control over the region, even though indirectly (instead through House of Sakya). Similarly, while the House of Goryeo was not abandoned or overthrown during the Yuan, it was under Yuan's control, as mentioned in the Wikpedia article Goryeo under Mongol rule. Indeed, there are many maps showing both Tibet and Korea as part of Yuan, such as this map, this map, this map, and this map. Meanwhile, I do think there are some factual errors in the map mentioned in your post, which also included Central and Northern Siberia as part of Yuan, which is certainly very controversial (even though it is generally agreed Southern Siberia as part of Yuan). So, I do not think such map can be used to definitely prove that Korea is not a part of Yuan. --Wengier (talk) 21:36, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
