Easy logo construction

I just had a look at the SVG source code.

Why is it so complicated? Please tell me what you think of the version shown on the right. I think it is much more convenient. -- Pumbaa80 00:37, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. I've uploaded a new version, using your idea: circles and a clip path. I didn't use the numbers from your construction image, though, because they were off a bit. User:dbenbenn 08:42, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this version is much better, thanks! :-) Now there's no need to use vast amounts of digits after the floating points, and this makes the source code much easier to read and to work on. I adapted the correct dimensions in my drawing (x2.5). -- Pumbaa80 17:50, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth, the "correct" dimensions are simply what I measured off Image:Wikimedia-logo.png, which is presumably the officially correct logo. User:dbenbenn 19:30, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, just have a look at the version history. The very original version has different dimensions. But the current version has probably been used as a template for several other images here, so let's just leave the values alone. --Pumbaa80 21:11, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Older version better?[edit]

I tried to use the newest version to create a .eps file. It did not work with Amya and Inkscape 0.43. The logo looked wrong. The last version is better, it worked. --Ikiwaner 17:52, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Current version doesn't validate[edit]

The W3C validator says the current version is invalid, and points to the spaces that currently exist in the id values. I did some research in the SVG specification and it seems like the validator is correct and that there should not be any spaces. I'd be happy to show you where the relevant sections are, if anyone is interested. Of course, I might also be wrong, and welcome corrections. I propose the following, corrected, version, which I was going to upload when I got all shaky about technicalities such as entering a summary (I just wanted to keep the old one), choosing a licence and entering a comment about what I have changed (I couldn't find anywhere to do that). Please upload it if you find it satisfactory.

Copyfraud?[edit]

It is stated that this is copyrighted by Wikimedia. But this design is so simple that it should be covered by {{PD-shape}}. Compare with decisions by the US Copyright Office in Threshold of originality#United States. Please change the license. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 07:18, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As I stated in Commons:Deletion requests/File:Icon-windows os.svg, I think you are wrong: PD-shape applies to images of simple geometric shapes only, not every image that you think is composed of simple shapes. The threshold for copyright protection is not simplicity of shape; but it is the authorship. (See en:Threshold of originality.) Fleet Command (talk) 23:02, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please read the decision (scan, 2.8 Mb) for the File:Nikken Logo.jpg. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 07:36, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
So what? Nikken logo was not original enough. Wikimedia logo is. The foundation says they had it registered; can you prove them wrong? Fleet Command (talk) 22:35, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think they really say that they had the copyright registered. But anyway, a search at http://cocatalog.loc.gov/ on "Wikimedia" as author does not give any hits. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 22:48, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New license[edit]

As a contributor to the abovementioned printed work I find this request no other than trolling. We know that this printed work contains copyrighted Wikimedia Ukraine logo and we are now looking into the best way to fix this issue — NickK (talk) 15:10, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

License[edit]

{{Editprotected}} Please set similar license to File:Wikimedia Foundation RGB logo with text.svg for this. Thanks −ebraminiotalk 20:14, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done, marked the page with {{PD-ineligible}}, and also changed file's protection level to allow regular users to edit the description. odder (talk) 13:51, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

License, part 2[edit]

The trademark template is not the one used on the [:File:Wikimedia Foundation RGB logo with text.svg]. {{Wikimedia trademark}} is the correct one. The file description is also no longer editable by users, despite having an edit link. ~~~~

[edit]

I want to propose updating the colour scheme to the new Wikimedia colour scheme: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Brand#Using_the_Wikimedia_colors

The new logo with updated colour scheme is as follows: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikimedia-logo-update-2016.svg

Seddon (WMF) (talk) 05:20, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What does this update proposal mean? If it’s something WMF-internal I feel like this isn’t the right place to discuss it. Keep in mind that accordnig to COM:OVERWRITE the old file should be kept, though imo this doesn’t neccessarily mean it can’t be moved so the new file could be at this filename. Btw: The description template on the other file is broken because of an unterminated wikilink to a user page in the author parameter. Also, while you’re at it, could you please fix the ID attributes as mentioned above (they must not contain spaces (according to SVG-Spec A.3.4, which refers here, which refers here), replace them i.e. by a hyphenminus or an underscore)? --Nenntmichruhigip (talk) 10:21, 24 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Requested update[edit]

Message for admins:

Hi,

When the original image will be UPDATEd with Wikimedia-logo (2).svg, could you add |other fields={{Igen|T|+|s=i}} in the {{Information}} section? Thanks! Thomas Linard (talk) 09:52, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
