With regards to the unknown date: This painting shows the National Gallery which was completed in 1838 but not Nelson's Column which was completed in 1842. Obviously we can only draw conclusions about the date of the scene (as opposed to the date the scene was painted). We have to ask why it was painted at all. Was it painted during or immediately prior to the construction of Trafalgar Square? Also if it isn't Trafalgar Square yet, should the title of it be 'Charing Cross'?--Ykraps (talk) 18:36, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
