This image does not include the Ionian Islands, that were under Venetian rule from the XV century to 1797 (see [1]). Maybe they can be shown inside a box, without enlarging the map. [Unsigned, by 87.2.254.251 ]

This is true, Mr. 251. Thanks for the note. There is another map out there, Image:Eastern Mediterranean 1450 .svg, which shows the Venetian possessions in the XV century. I will make that note on the Image page here. If you know of a map of the possessions in 1796, I would be interested in seeing it and perhaps would be able to include it in this map. Thanks, MapMaster 16:16, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, after 1450 Venice lost many of its possessions due to the Turkish Wars. One of the last treaties between Venice and Ottomans is the Treaty of Carlowitz (1699) that you can find in this map in the right-upper box (after that, they lost only the Morea, as it is written in the map - if you have good eyes, of course!). In light blue you can see the possessions of Venice, that included the islands of (using venetian/italian names) Corfù (Korfu on the map), Santa Maura (S. Maura), Cefalonia (Kephalonia) and Zante in the west of Greece, and Cerigo in the south (actual names: Kerkyra, Lefkada, Kefallonia, Zakynthos and Kythira). I guess that the islands of Passo (Paxi) and Itaca (Ithaki), too small to be seen on that map, also belonged to Venice, since they were included in the en:Septinsular Republic created by Russian/Ottoman forces after 1797 from the former Venetian territories. Here are also mentioned the smaller islands of Antipasso (Antipaxi) and Cerigotto (Antikythira) and the towns of Parga, Prevesa (Preveza) and Vonizza (Vonitsa) on the mainland.
Many thanks! 87.2.254.251 12:19, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Republic of Dubrovnik[edit]

The free Republic of Dubrovnik (Ragusa) should also be part of the image. --Minestrone (talk) 15:11, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
