Please note that this map is incorrect, as it has the Trapezond Empire as independent in 1135. The Trapezond did not break away from the Byzantine Empire until 1204, a few weeks before the Forth Crusade. Dinkytown (talk) 18:46, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Totally Wrong[edit]

Six years ago a user pointed out the map is incorrect in showing Trebizond as an independent empire in 1135. The 1135 date on the map is totally wrong on many more levels than that. It displays a large 'Almohad Kingdom' spanning North Africa and Iberia when the Almoravids weren't overthrown by the Almohads until the 1140s. It displays, again, a large 'Domains of the Ayyubids' across Egypt and the Middle East when Saladin didn't overthrow the Fatimid Caliphate until 1171. It shows a 'Kingdom of Bulgaria' occupying much of the present nation-state when, in fact, the Bulgarian Revolt that spawned the 2nd Bulgarian Empire didn't even begin until 1185, and achieved those borders only around 1195. Hungarian Severin wasn't established until the 1220s, yet the County of Edessa which the map also shows as existing fell in 1159.

In short, the map is so rife with flagrant inaccuracies about major states it's less than useless and should probably be removed from Wikipedia lest it mislead people. I'm not sure if it was from a lack of available sources when the map was created or what, but there are much better maps on Commons that could be substituted on any pages that use it. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 50.234.189.31 (talk) 02:18, 1 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
