License[edit]

Pinging Jacopo Werther as uploader and also Wilfredor who contacted the photographer on Flickr: Rodney Ee has licensed this file under a Creative Commons non-commerical licence. What's the reason the image could get uploaded here, given that Commons doesn't allow photos licensed that way? Best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 20:26, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear @Frank Schulenburg: , the picture can stay here because it was originally published with a commons compatible license, however, the author changed the license on Flickr.
It is important to note, though, that once a work has been made available under a given license, the copyright holder cannot legally change or revoke the license on copies of that work. Thus, an image originally licensed as CC-BY and uploaded to Commons under that license (and verified), but later changed on Flickr to All Rights Reserved, may remain on Commons under the CC-BY license. Such a situation is undesirable, of course, and politely asking the Flickr user to reconsider may be a good idea. In the meantime, you may tag the file with {{Flickr-change-of-license}} to indicate the license disparity (see Commons:Flickr files) --Wilfredor (talk) 21:07, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. I remember I did a research at the time this FP was nominated, then I saw "licence 2.0" and did not pay more attention to it. But now I realize the licence By-NC 2.0 is different from By 2.0 generic. (And I can't remember what was written specifically in the past). That's quite surprising the author would have changed the licence (although not impossible). Is it not a mistake from Commons, instead? What about the other licences used by this photographer in general? Can we contact this person to get a confirmation? Thanks, Frank Schulenburg, for your vigilance -- Basile Morin (talk) 01:11, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I was just curious to see whether it was worth to follow the photographer on Flickr. I think this is a really strong action shot and I hope the explanation is as simple as "license on Flickr has been changed in the meanwhile". Best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 01:33, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
