Adding a note on publication date.[edit]
JKadavoor Jee says: "I see nothing wrong in noting down the date of publication." Taivo says: "Both dates must be given." Sounds like consensus to me. Vzeebjtf (talk) 11:05, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- And right after that he admits to having a doubt, so there is no consensus, and your continuing to add an opinion to the description, arguing that you know better thanb the professionals at the New York Public Library does a disservice to our readers. Beyond My Ken (talk) 20:31, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- I did a little more research; the results:
- They are named "Perris, W. Maps of the city of New York. 1857". Because all maps Depicts: 1857 irrespective of the publishing year. See [1], [2]
- "Perris, W. Maps of the city of New York. 1857-62" is also used. Because they were published from 1857 to 1862 (Vol 1 and 2 are published on 1857, 3-6 on 1859 and 7 on 1862). See [3] Perris. Maps of the city of New York (7 v.) (3rd. ed) Contents: v.1 (1857)--v.2 (1857)--v.3 (1859)--v.4 (1859)--v.5 (1859)--v.6 (1859)--v.7 (1862) NYPL Digital Gallery
- So, if any plan to record the year of publishing (v.5 (1859)); please specify the maps depicts 1857 of that place to avoid any confusion. JKadavoor Jee 05:35, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- So there is a consensus that giving both dates is not misleading. Vzeebjtf (talk) 05:57, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- And no one -- including Beyond My Ken -- disputes the publishing date. Vzeebjtf (talk) 06:18, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- I have emailed a query to the library on the documentation for the date depicted.
- Incidentally, the professionals at the library call this image Booth's Theatre. Here at the Commons we call it File:Gilmore's Concert Garden, from Robert N. Dennis collection of stereoscopic views 7.png. Would Beyond My Ken like to change our filename to avoid the implication that we know more than the professionals at the library? (I'm not knocking the professionals at the library, but they do make mistakes, like everyone else.) Vzeebjtf (talk) 08:10, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
