On the identification, the red spot on the bill suggests this is a Herring Gull or close relative, but the red eye ring looks unusual. The only reference I could find to a Herring Gull with a red eye ring is for the California Gull, Larus californicus at enature.com - however I wouldn't have thought you would expect to find them on Elba. -- Solipsist 19:39, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
