The map claims that the state was subordinated to the Byzantine empire in 1045, yet there is virtually no proof to support this. In particular, the historian Fine implies that the empire had already relinquished Croatia after the death of Basil II (1019-1025). Some primary sources also contradict the map such as various religious establishments by the Croatian king (which reflect upon his independence) and his intentions of conquering the dalmatian cities by force from Venice for which the Byzantine emperor had the kings' cousin imprisoned during his brief stay in Constantinople. (and so on) I've changed the map accordingly.
