Topgallants and royals

Sails on each mast are, top down:

  1. Royals
  2. Upper Topgallant
  3. Lower Topgallant
  4. Upper Topsails
  5. Lower Topsails
  6. Courses

Although it is true that the topgallant masts on Krusenstern continue up in one piece to the trucks, I have never seen a reference to a third sail on such a mast being called a "topgallant" -- above the two topgallants is a royal, whether on a separate mast or not. This is true in a variety of references, both British and American. See, for example File:Square rig names.gif.

Therefore, this diagram showing the two topgallants and the royals in pink is incorrect.      Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 12:22, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
