This map is completely wrong. It shows for example the western part of the Hormozgan Province and the much of the Khuzestan Province as Arabic whish is not correct. It should be deleted.--ماني (talk) 09:15, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Any ethnic map of Iran is inevitably contested, especially concerning the many multiethnic areas and the main towns. --Claude Zygiel (talk) 15:17, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Revert to original version?[edit]

Billinghurst in 2016 you reverted this file to an old version stating that "this is one alternative that was originally uploaded in 2007", but the current version is significantly different to the original image uploaded in 2007, as can be seen in the file history. Please revert the file back to the original version and not the edited remake that is displayed currently. GPinkerton (talk) 19:54, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@GPinkerton: Cannot remember back to 2016, though from looking at the history someone was trying to have to have two files treated as duplicate with the usual overwrite games. I have lessened protection feel free to revert to wherever it needs to be, though it will need to be different from the suspected comparative file. Personally all the files should be checked for veracity and there may need to be some labelling with {{Disputed}} or similar.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:36, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Billinghurst Many thanks! I've reverted to the uploader's original intentions (the second edition, from August 2007) and I have expanded the description to make the ancestors and descendants of the image clearer. To my mind the file should be protected again; further fiddling with borders and colours is best left to the newer files, and the page history contains a broad and plentiful menu of options for every palate (!). Semi-protection may not be enough. GPinkerton (talk) 20:52, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@GPinkerton: Commons:Protection policy is the guidance and the process.  — billinghurst sDrewth 02:32, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Billinghurst It says: "To request protection … Ask an administrator". See section below. GPinkerton (talk) 02:36, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This ability is usually only used to combat vandalism and edit wars and the protection is usually temporary. Some exceptions include heavily used templates and archived user right request pages.

and I don't think that we are there yet. The existing protection seems reasonable for the circumstances, and that is solely my opinion. If you disagree with that opinion, then happy for you to seek a broader opinion, noting that is my only opinion, and no further opinion will exist for the existing circumstance.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:07, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Modification 2021, august 21[edit]

See please discussion file and sources here [1] and also [2] Richard Nelson Frye's “Peoples of Iran” in Encyclopaedia Iranica, 2006. Thank you. --Claude Zygiel (talk) 13:02, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Claude Zygiel No, you may upload your designs in a different file: this map represents a digitization of a specific source. I will revert your changes and ping Billinghurst to please protect the page yet again. GPinkerton (talk) 16:55, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The updates, corrections (including sourced and argued ones) or even translations of a lot of inaccurate maps, and here the changes from File:Iran ethnoreligious distribution 2004.jpg ("Azeri" area enlarged, the "Kurd" and "Baloch" areas reduced, some parts of the "Arab" area deleted altogether, following the population deportations consecutive to the Irak-Iran war : see Amnesty International, May 2006 - Spotlight on Urgent Actions: Iran's Arab minority (french)) are considered by some contributors as "bad faith manipulations". This makes the discussions between colleagues useless and the improving of Wikipedia cartographic library impossible. 2A01:CB1C:821F:A400:6429:5C1E:D20B:F932 14:56, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
