Not Genoplesium nigricans but Corunastylis tepperi[edit]

This is an image of Corunastylis tepperi which was taken by Kevin Thiele, the curator of the Western Australian herbarium, who labelled the image Corunastylis tepperi. WCSP lists Corunastylis tepperi as a synonym of Genoplesium nigricans. In Australia C. nigricans (G. nigricans in WCSP) and C. tepperi are distinct, different species as follows:

C. nigricans (Kangaroo Island midge orchid) – purplish brown flowers with green markings and a shiny, dark purplish labellum - South Australia;

C. tepperi (mallee midge orchid) – greenish with dark purple-black labellum – Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia. (There are other difference, not observable in this image.)

C. tepperi has been confused with C. nigricans.[1][2]

(The plantnet page Genoplesium nigricans has not been mainained for at least several years.)[3]

This image is therefore of Corunastylis tepperi = Genoplesium nigricans but not of Corunastylis nigricans".
