Green[edit]

According to http://www.vexilla-mundi.com/syria.htm the green color should be RGB 0 183 96 --ALE! ¿…? 10:19, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

vexilla-mundi.com does not cite its sources and is often inaccurate. ¦ Reisio 01:16, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Optimized File[edit]

{{Edit request}} I have made an optimized version of this SVG file, that can be found at Flag_of_Syria(OPTIMIZED_FILE).svg. The optimized file has only 387 bytes. There are visually no differences between this and the previous version. Could a user who is able to update the file please do so? Thespoondragon (talk) 02:06, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Star Size[edit]

Hello, there is currently a small dispute on the size of the stars of the Syrian flag. Both the Syrian Mission to the UN and the Syrian Ministry of the Interior have flags with stars that are 3/4 of the height of the center stripe, both of which I believe can be considered reliable on the design of the Syrian flag. Does anyone have reliable sources that show the stars of the Syrian flag at the smaller size? pinging involved editors: @Sakiv: @BlinxTheKitty: --Thespoondragon (talk) 05:36, 18 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

All I can say is that most depictions of the flag in the 1980s show the stars as smaller than in your version (for example, Guide to the Flags of the World by Mauro Talocci, revised and updated by Whitney Smith ISBN 0-688-01141-1). AnonMoos (talk) 13:59, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I took a look at the flag books available on Archive.org, and have taken all the Syrian flag images I could obtain in a reasonable time, and approximated the ratio of the height of the stars to the height of the white stripe. The results I have posted onto Imgur.(apologies for it being rather rough) It seems that in most sources available on Archive.org, the ratio of the height of stars to height of white stripe is 1:2, as opposed to the dimensions presently used officially by the Government of Syria, which is 3:4. I propose that the 1:2 dimensions of stars be its own file. These dimensions could also be used in the United Arab Republic flags, as it appears that the 1:2 ratio was the one used for the most part at the time. --Thespoondragon (talk) 01:03, 23 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure that I would personally object, but probably some other people are going to want to know when the ratio was changed, and in which document... AnonMoos (talk) 02:52, 23 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well that issue only exists if we use the historical variant format (Flag of NAME (XXXX-XXXX).svg) rather than have the new file be named "Flag of Syria (smaller stars).svg" or another name as a design variant, which was my main proposal, though I should have been more clear. --Thespoondragon (talk) 05:08, 23 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It seems the Small Star variant was used in the United Arab Republic-era too(?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQBr4KDU5AM and another can be seen on Nassers coffin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-3v8OvZYug — Preceding unsigned comment added by BlinxTheKitty (talk • contribs) 14:15, 16 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Amer saleh 1989 (talk) 23:47, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Creative Commons[edit]

Can someone explain why this simple still-used national flag is under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported? previously i don't think this license was not here and i doubt the file uploader gave permission to change licensing --BlinxTheKitty (talk) 16:23, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The flag has be changed![edit]

{{Edit request}} Hello Sir/Madam, In March 2011, a revolution broke out in Syria, and this revolution was met with live bullets, bombing, and killing by the Syrian regime, which is concerned with the flag that you adopt! And this is a crime. The vast majority of the Syrian people are part of this revolution that carries a flag of different colors and other forms, and this flag must be added as a second flag for Syria at least. It is not easy, but I can collect millions of signatures from Syrians who wish to add the flag of the revolution as a symbol of a free Syria. Abed.Al.Rifae (talk) 00:16, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The green-white-black flag with red stars is amply represented on Commons, but the Assad government was never overthrown, and the revolution has been retreating in recent years. AnonMoos (talk) 20:55, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
