Redrawn based on official construction sheet.[edit]

{{Edit request}} Presently, the flag on this page is based on FOTW's measurement of an official diagram, and not the official construction sheet published in 1959. As a result, the flag is slightly inaccurate with regards to the dimensions of the stars, width of the moon and the placement of the symbols. I have redrawn them in accordance with the construction sheet and have corresponded with the National Heritage Board of Singapore, who has told me they will look into the inaccuracy of the diagram on their page. I believe it's best to follow the legislation, which is an authoritative source on how the flag should be drawn.

I am aware that the present flag is most likely drawn with a text editor and incorporates certain default elements like the 'star' parameter. However, this is not acceptable as the default star parameter does not perfectly fit within a circle, and is slightly longer in height than width, while the official diagram clearly shows the five points touching the edge of a circle.

Replacement flag drawn in accordance to the official construction sheet.
Remade construction sheet which will be published in the Flag of Singapore page if accepted.

If the edit goes through, I will update the description page accordingly.

I concur with this request. It apparently has nothing to do with the edit war that caused the page to be semi-protected, and is entirely about geometry. The current version of the image clearly has improper stars and looks slightly “off” compared to the fixed version. To any administrator, I argue this file should be overwritten. I'd like to have another Korean user to comment, before I overwrite a widely used file. @Tcfc2349: --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 00:02, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I would just like to point out that all photos on the Flag of Singapore page shows that the crescent ends midway below the star, and not completely over it, so this version is very clearly inaccurate. I plan to update all the relevant Singaporean flags to align the stars and crescents, but am waiting for this one to proceed first.
Is there anything I can do to expedite this overwrite if Tcfc2349 does not reply soon? I have been waiting for nearly one and a half months with no other replies. Thank you. Seloloving (talk) 04:30, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. I haven't been able to respond due to my recent decline in Wikipedia activity. It's okay to update the file, and I've made some modifications accordingly. --Tcfc2349 (talk) 04:08, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the help to further cut down the file size Tcfc2349, thank you. @Hedwig in Washington: Would you be free any time soon to overwrite the file? This would be greatly appreciated, and I thank you in advance for the bother. Seloloving (talk) 17:51, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Replacement has finally been performed. --Túrelio (talk) 15:30, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Reduced code[edit]

<path d="M0 0h54v18H0z" fill="#ed2939"/>
<circle cx="11.405" cy="9" r="6.625"/>
<circle cx="14.405" cy="9" r="6.625" fill="#ed2939"/>

</g>
<use xlink:href="#t" transform="rotate(72 15.03 9)"/>
</svg>

I find that the source code of the current file is clearly not optimized. So I request it to be replaced by the above code. The file size is less than a half of the current one (1264 bytes->593 bytes). The geometry is unchanged but the document dimensions are changed to 900x600 which are more common and appropriate. Also, the red color is changed back to #ed2939 (Pantone 032).--Mike Rohsopht (talk) 16:56, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mike Rohsopht: That's amazing! How did you do that? Seloloving (talk) 11:02, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Seloloving: The coordinates can be derived from the Construction Sheet. For the crescent, the current code uses two <path> elements each formed two semi circles. They can be replaced by two <circle> elements. For the stars, the current code uses five separate paths. Since they have the same size, any four of them can be cloned from the remaining one. Actually older versions also used cloning for the stars but by translations. My code uses rotations which are more accurate.--Mike Rohsopht (talk) 15:09, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
