The French, Portuguese and (less glaringly) UK flags depicted are all anachronistic. None of them was used during the period from 1501 to 1739. The French tricolour came in after the Revolution of 1789, the red saltire was only added to the Union flag in 1801, and the Portuguese red-and-green flag was adopted as recenly as 1911. The UK flag is glaring, as the Union between England and Scotland happened in 1707, after the dates on the map. I have tried to correct the flags --Henry Bottomley (talk) 22:34, 5 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
