Argentina[edit]

In Argentina death penalty is abolished for all crimes. Correct the World Map, please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.254.53.207 (talk • contribs) 06:23, 12 April 2005 (UTC)[reply]

According to Amnesty, Argentina has not abolished them for exceptional crimes such as crimes under military law or crimes committed in exceptional circumstances. Evil Monkey 21:59, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Therefore, the territory of the Russian federation should be marked green, not orange. Russia is member of the European Council and has thus abolished the death penalty in peacetimes since 1997. (Amnesty information) Jesusfreund 09:57, 24 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Russia has made a committment not to use the death penalty when it joined the Council of Europe but has not officially abolished it, and death is still a legal punishment. Evil Monkey 10:16, 24 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Abolitionist in practice[edit]

Hello,

what was the criterion used to qualify a country of Abolitionist in practice? There is much more of these on these map than those on my source which use No death penalty applied in ten years.

It would be interesting to precise this along with the color description. Jyp 07:56, 27 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Myanmar?[edit]

Are you sure that there is no death penalty in Myanmar? Same for Nepal ... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Polarlys (talk • contribs) 21:50, 2 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't originally colour the map, and only act as something of a "guardian" so I apologise if colours are wrong. However, Myanmar is coloured correctly having not executed anyone since 1993 and ccording to Amnesty, Nepal abolished the death penalty in 1997 and the constitution states in Article 12(1): "(1) ...no law shall be made which provides for capital punishment." Article 12 is included in Part 3, "Fundamental Rights". Evil Monkey 21:43, July 18, 2005 (UTC)

Armenian Correction[edit]

Well, it seems that one user was complaining that Armenia was labeled incorrectly, so I will proceed to fix it. --Daejiny 06:08, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed version[edit]

I went through and fixed pretty much all the countries according to Amnesty Int'l (except for a few small island nations that I couldn't find on the map). However, I'm not sure how to upload it. I've never used the Commons before. Wikipedia has a link to upload a new version of a file, but I don't see anything like that here. Should I just use the upload utility and give it the same name? Dbinder 21:31, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind, it's done. Apparently I can't upload over old files yet, since I haven't been on Commons long enough. Dbinder 03:10, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Madagascar[edit]

The death penalty is not 'abolished in practice' in Madagascar: 12 people were just sentenced... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7098253.stm — Preceding unsigned comment added by 214.13.209.200 (talk • contribs) 22:46, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, this request seems a bit unclear. Could you restate it? Magog the Ogre (talk) 17:45, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update[edit]

Uzbekistan went abolitionist. Also changed Tanzania, Eritrea, Malawi and Ghana to reflect AI's list. IdiotSavant 23:27, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kazakhstan[edit]

"An amendment of 21 May 2007 to the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan abolished the death penalty in all cases save for acts of terrorism entailing loss of life and for especially grave crimes committed in wartime." (http://www.legislationline.org/?tid=144&jid=28&less=false)

Could you please replace the image with this one http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ru/3/3e/Death_Penalty_World_Map4.png ? — User:Cycneavox 12:30, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone ahead and changed Kazakhstan to yellow on this map. Magog the Ogre (talk) 17:44, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
