HI. There was a "speedy deletion" tag posted on a .gif file I posted, because the base file has been used on two other websites. Its free use on other websites indicates that it is NOT copyrighted, not that it is. ElijahBosley (talk) 15:28, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry but more the opposite. The fact that something a user has uploaded today to Commons is already found on the internet, highly suggests that the uploader is not the author. The thing is, you as the uploader have to convince us that you are the author or, if you are ot the author, that the real author has released it under a free license. --Túrelio (talk) 15:34, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(editconflict) I've traced the Flickr hotlink to the description page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/webhostingreview/3090392251/
The blogimage found in TinEye (here) also links back to this Flickr page.
The Flickr image in quetsion is licensed CC-BY-2.0 and uploaded to commons as File:Police car with emergency lights on.jpg. –Krinkletalk 15:36, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Krinkle thanks--you're way ahead of me: I was going to say that this is licensed under a Creative Commons license on Flikr by a photpgrapher named (apparently) Scott Davidson. The comments on that page suggest several people are using the photo under that license, as well as it's having been uploaded to Commons already as File:Police car with emergency lights on.jpg. I can certainly e-mail Mr. Davidson and ask if he objects to using it as an animated gif, but as it is already available under a Commons License that is a courtesy rather than necessity. The Common License in question allows adaptive re-use. To reiterate: this is not appropriate for the speedy deletion tag, the copyright status is discussable and I would say, not even very questionable. The photo is available under the Commons License. Once I have verified the specific license I will note it as such on its description page. Also I intend to improve the animated image when I get a chance.
