Another picture of fr:Maurice Fingercwajg, a clue for the location

[edit]

3 Students of Lycée Jean-Durand de Castelnaudary have a group picture captioned "Manouchian et ses camarades lors de son éxécution" on their Affiche rouge web page.

  • Fingercwajg seems to be the second person from the right
  • the grammar of the caption phrase is a bit strange, it should be "leur execution" ("their", instead of "his")
  • The background seems to be the same as on the Bundesarchiv picture. The white rectangle is a windowsill.
  • With that picture, it becomes a little easier to find the exact location where all these pictures were taken. We need to find where this building with 3 such windows is located.

According to [1], in the prison court at Fresnes. Lupo 14:18, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Same location is given here, too. Lupo 14:25, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Very interesting. I wish I could check if this photographer Theobald was a member of "ein Team französischer Fotografen", as Lorenz Pollak is saying, or if German photographers were included. Teofilo (talk) 14:44, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, I think this Theobald was a member of a German "Propagandakompanie". Do a photographer search for him at the German Federal Archive... it's still possible that in addition to Theobald, there were also French photographers. After all, it was also the French police who arrested Manouchian. Or... maybe Theobald was French, but worked for a German "Propagandakompanie"? Maybe a bit unlikely, though... There are a few problems in Lorenz Pollak's text :
  • He forgets to mention the trial which took place between february 15th and february 21st (with variations according to different authors : some say that if began on the 19th, others say that it ended on the 19th....)
  • Most authors say that Manouchian died in Mont-Valérien, not in Ivry (Ivry is the location of the cemetery where he was buried)
  • The red poster was displayed in the streets of Paris between february 10th and 15th, so that the pictures of Bundesarchiv must have been made before february 10th. "Am Morgen des 21. Februar 1944", as Lorenz Pollak is saying, is too late. Teofilo (talk) 23:04, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Have a look at fr:Affiche rouge where I wrote my latest findings. Perhaps the most important is that some movies are dated February 11th 1944 by fr:Institut national de l'audiovisuel. Teofilo (talk) 21:59, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is consistent with the fact that Manouchian's last letter, dated on the execution day, is signed from Fresnes. Teofilo (talk) 14:36, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
