Identifying the species

[edit]

Since this is a photo taken at a zoo it could be any species from around the world. My first thought was that it's a Baltimore Trupial (Icterus galbula), but it doesn't seem to be that. Neither does it seem to be a Black-headed Oriole (Oriolus larvatus) or any other similar spcies of the genus Oriolus. It has to be a passerine, so I have put it into Category:Unidentified Passeriformes. / Achird (talk) 06:58, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This bird seems to be an african weaver of the genus Ploceus. Ploceus cucullatus (Village Weaver) seems to be the best match, but similar species as Ploceus vitellinus (Vitelline Masked Weaver), and Ploceus tricolor (Yellow Mantled Weaver) are also possible. Note that P. cucullatus consists of several subspecies of various appearance. Btw, I don't think the bird is orange enough to be a Ploceus melanocephalus (Black-headed Weaver or Yellow-backed Weaver). Based on this I will place this file in the Category:Unidentified Ploceus. / Achird (talk) 19:04, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have tried to find out what a "Brazilian mandroco" is, but it seems that there is no such thing, so I assume that this is a case of sneaky vandalism. I will now remove the description "Brazilian mandroco". / Achird (talk) 11:13, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
