Identification[edit]

@Wlodzimierz: Sorry to write in English. Hello. I think the name Amanaita alba is not used currently and I cannot find it in books of European fungi. According to Species Fungorum and Mycobank, Amanita alba Thiers (1957) is a synonym of what is now called Saproamanita thiersii, but that does not look like the photo. Also there were Amanita alba Lam. (1783) and Amanita alba Pers. (1818), but those names are long forgotten. On the other hand there are Amanita subspecies like A. citrina f. alba where alba is below the species level.

Please could you provide more information relating to the identification of the mushroom or give a reference to where you found the name Amanita alba or explain what it means?

In my opinion the mushroom looks like an Amanita citrina (the scales sometimes go brown like that, I think). Without more information I would propose to recategorize it as "Unidentified Amanita". I look forward to seeing your answer. Strobilomyces (talk) 16:30, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Strobilomyces: , you may be totally right! I am not an expert in fungi, so the identification was done on the run with a colleague that knows a bit more, and using some field guides. Feel free to re-categorize it as A. citrina and also if the file name change is needed, please do it. This mushroom was found in a beech forest during autumn season, in the mountain in Southeast Europe. I think that Saproamanita thiersii is a North American species. Thank you for spotting this error. Hello @Wlodzimierz: . Thank you for your answer. In order to be on the safe side I have re-categorized it as "Unidentified Amanita". I don't think it is necessary to change the file name and I think it is best if only the originator does that if desired - it can be problematic.
