doing a little forensics, it looks like the streetcar tracks have a full Y at the intersection without the line continuing straight, so it's either E looking north or D looking south. Location of the hotel: according to the San Bernardino Sun, "The magnificent Stewart Hotel in downtown San Bernardino...Built in 1887 at Third and E streets".
