Identification[edit]
@Clump: Hello. Please can you say why you think this is a Conocybe? I don't think that is possible, some gills are visible at the bottom of the cap and they show that the spores are very dark. I think it must be a coprinoid type such as Coprinellus micaceus. Strobilomyces (talk) 11:50, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- Greetings. The dark edge of the cap I attributed to its progressing decay, and comparing to other pictures in the respective categories, this Conocybe in particular, it has the conical and more delicate shape of Conocybe, as opposed to Coprinellus, which while matching the colouration better has a larger, thicker and rounder cap. However, I have little experience in mushroom identification, and if you or anyone else with more expertise feels it is incorrect I have no objections to changes. --Clump (talk) 12:39, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for answering. If you look carefully, the black at the bottom of the cap consists of sections of gills which are visible. By the way, Conocybes are very difficult to identify exactly and normally need a microscope. They tend to be more compact and they may be radially striate but in a different way. I intend to change the category to "Unidentified Psathyrellaceae" since you do not object. Strobilomyces (talk) 16:05, 26 September 2020 (UTC)

- @Clump: OK, I did not think that a Conocybe could be like that, but perhaps I am wrong. I don't know C. apala. The black at the bottom of the cap is certainly portions of gills and I would have thought it was too dark, but on considering further I am not really sure, and I will leave it as it is. - Ok as well. :) If I see similar ones pop up again I'll take pictures of the underside, or even try to make a spore print to help identify it better, but I'm not expecting any new ones until next year at this point. --Clump (talk) 14:16, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
