Identification

[edit]

Might be the Empire Flag (later SS Inchearn).[1] The deadweight matches the caption in the photo, and details seem similar to the later photos. Seems like there were many sister ships though, as it was a "standard type B cargo ship", so maybe there are some from other yards too not mentioned.

  • Empire Stronghold[2] also had similar dimensions. A couple of details on the gunwale seem different in the later photo, but there could have been modifications since WWII.
  • Empire Standard[3] also has the same dimensions, built at the same yard.
  • Empire Prospect[4] also similar, but gunwale seems different.
  • Empire Morley[5] also similar, but photos hard to compare.
  • Empire Mandarin[6]] also seems very similar -- gunwale details match.
  • Empire Lady[7] also close.
  • Empire Farmer[8] also close.
  • Empire Claymore[9] ... not sure.
  • Empire Asquith[10]
  • Empire Abbey[11]
