Some suggestions and questions

[edit]

@Rr016: Great work with this map. I considered making one myself but this is not needed since this one exists. Maybe I will do a more overview-like map. Nevertheless I have some suggestions/questions:

  • The caption says, the scope of the map is up to Nov 9th. It obviously goes further. Maybe just change the caption. But I would also suggest to change the color of areas transfered due to the ceasefire agreement. At the moment there is no much difference between areas captured in the war and transfered afterwards. Maybe paint them like in one of the first versions. A second option would be to split in 2 maps upto and after Nov 9th.
  • The borders of the remaining N-K are less accurate than they could. You could use File:Artsakh Republic 1994-2020.svg, which gives you quite accurate borders of the former NKAO and thus of some of the rayons like Aghdam.
  • Were the areas wet of Zangilan and south of Qubadli really gained during the fighting or after the ceasefire? Some maps show this differently, even the two you used as sources.
  • Earlier versions had Azeri troops moving from Hakari valley to Shush*. These vanished after you added the Armenian holdings around Hin Tagher etc. But were there really no such movements or did they just not result in permanent gains?
  • The capture of Madaghis is more contested, isn't it? Other maps and also the Russian ones show the contact line not so far south, just at the Tartar river.
  • I suggest leave out the year in all the dates in the map since it was all in 2020. You could make the dates larger and thus better to read instead. --Don-kun (talk) 19:05, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Don-kun: Thank you for your feedback, Don-kun! I appreciate your maps of the Congo Wars. Feel free to make your own Nagorno-Karabakh overview map if you want; I only made this map because it was requested by @LevyHerro: on my talk page. About your suggestions:

  • The scope of the map is up to November 9 because that is when hostilities ended. Afterwards there were only minor clashes and Russian-monitored Armenian withdrawals. I guess I could change the color of the areas transferred due to ceasefire agreement (in the next map update).
  • I traced the N-K borders from Wikimapia's data. I think they look accurate enough; if not, then someone can correct the borders in a future map update.
  • ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  • This was a map correction: there were no Azeri advances from the Hakari valley to Shusha - they attacked from the Hadrut axis. I initially thought they attacked from the Hakai valley until it was later confirmed that Hin Tagher area is still under Armenian control (https://twitter.com/ghost_watcher1/status/1332399848646189063).
  • Correct, I didn't think anyone would notice just a small detail! (will be fix in the next map update)
  • I understand the redundancy of adding the year in the dates, but that is just my preference.
