Date of this map[edit]

The 1654 dating of this map is likely too late. The source web page gives a date of 1648, which is reasonable. The map mentions Louis XIV, whose reign began in 1643, and Anne d'Autriche as Regent, so this is the earliest possible date. However, the Palais des Tuileries and the gardens to the west side are depicted as they appeared prior to 1652 (cf. File:1652 Gomboust 9 Panel Map of Paris, France (c. 1900 Taride reissue) - Geographicus - Paris-gomboust-1900.jpg). Based on the information on the source web page and the 1652 Gomboust map, I am changing the date in the description to ca. 1648 (1643–1652). --Robert.Allen (talk) 18:39, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Another indication that the 1654 date in the file name of this map is incorrect is that this map shows the Hôtel de Nevers next to the Tour de Nesle on the Left Bank, whereas the 1652 Gamboust map shows the Hôtel de Guénégaud. According to Peter Smith in Braham & Smith, François Mansart (London, 1973), p. 238, work on the Hôtel de Nevers to change it into the Hôtel de Guénégaud began sometime in the second half of 1650, and was well advanced by March 1652, when Mme Guénégaud slept there a few days before giving birth to her daughter. (Mansart was involved in this alteration.) --Robert.Allen (talk) 23:00, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
