July 22, 2004, Kabul, Afghanistan: Mir Hamidullah, a Seeds of Peace Youth Leader, gives a Seeds of Peace t-shirt to U.S. Ambassador and Special Presidential Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad. Ambassador Khalilzad hosted an event at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul for 28 Afghan Seeds of Peace Youth Leaders, 14 of whom have just returned from a conflict-resolution program at Seeds of Peace International Camp in Maine. The youth leaders also visited Washington, D.C. where they met with various Members of Congress, State Department and White House Officials. The State Department Bureau of South Asian Affairs funds the Afghans’ participation in the program and subsequent follow-on activity. “In Afghanistan, it will take a new generation of leaders to fully overcome the legacy of so much war and so much violence. But it can be done, and it is up to you, the future leaders of Afghanistan to make it happen,” U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad told the students. |
