Description

'De Mauley Window', Stained glass window in York Minister, 4th window from the east on the south side of the nave. Depicting martyrdom scenes of St Stephen, St Andrew and St John the Baptist. Given by Stephen de Mauley, Archdeacon of Cleveland (1289-1317) whose name formerly appeared in the centre light. In 1903 the badly corroded glass was entrusted to the London firm of Burlison & Grylls by G F Bodley, the minster architect, for restoration. Very little of the original glass survives, but comparison with pre-restoration photographs reveals that the window is a very accurate copy of the original.
