[edit]A Shocking Murder. Associated Press Report. New York; August 2, 1880. Franz Julius Munzburg, a Polish plasterer, and Xavier Lindauer, a house painter, occupied rooms in the rear of 45 Forsyth street. The men quarreled Thursday, but were separated before either was injured. Late this afternoon Munzburg entered Lindauer's apartment and fired a shot which disabled the latter's right arm. Mrs. Lindauer seized a flat iron, but Munzburg brushed her aside, pursued Lindauer into an adjoining room and fired a second shot into his face. Helpless, bleeding and wild with terror Lindauer fled to the street, pursued by his enemy. A third shot from Munzburg's pistol went wide of its mark, but Lindauer fell on the sidewalk, and as he was attempting to rise again, Munzburg rushed up, and fired the fourth shot into his right side, which killed him instantly. He was attempting to fire again, when he was seized and disarmed by the citizens. A police officer took the murderer into custody. Lindauer was a German, fifty years old. His murderer stated tonight to the police that he intended to kill him, because he feared personal injury. It was said threats of lynching had been made before the police obtained possession the the murderer.
