Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A closer look at the leading edge of a Wood Duck's nictitating membrane. A nictitating membrane is a translucent eye cover that many birds have in addition to their eyelids. This membrane is used to protect and moisturize a bird's eye while still providing visibility. It reaches from the front of the eye to the back, so in this image the eye is mostly covered.
