Summary[edit]

Description
English: This photo is of my maternal grandparents marriage in Hazaribagh, India on 2 February 1912. Mildred Jessie's maiden name was Pemberton. Her father, Walter Aubrey Herbert Pemberton (1858-1908) was born on the Island of Nevis in the W. Indies, and had been a school teacher in Nainital and later Hazaribagh and Calcutta. He died age 50 of cholera. William Victor Duke left Northern Ireland for India c. 1911 and studied for the Priesthood and seems to be already a Clerk in Holy Orders in this photo, but was not ordained Priest until 1934 in Torguay, England. He was an Indian Government School Inspector for many years and ultimately became Principal of Ravenshaw College (now University) in Cuttack, Bihar & Orissa Province, India. He was a Lieutenant in the Indian Rifles in WW1, stationed in the Balkans and in Mesopotamia, modern day Iraq. He fought in the Second Battle of Kut in February 1917. The photo was copied by me from the collection of my late aunt, Dulcie Hilda Duke (1915-2003), Vice Principal of Bishop Grosseteste College (now University), Lincoln, UK., eldest daughter of five children born to William Victor and Mildred Jessie Duke.
