Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Wilking Building located at 1512-14 H Street, NW in downtown Washington, D.C. The nine-story building, designed by local architect Jules Henri de Sibour, was constructed in 1912 by the Wells Bros., of New York. The owners were John F. and Robert C. Wilkins. In 1932, the U.S. Federal government purchased the building and used it as office space for the Veteran Bureau. The Wilkins Building was demolished in the 1960s and the site is now occupied by the Howard T. Markey National Courts Building.

On the far left is the Union Trust Building, now a branch office of the American Bar Association. It was designed by local architect Waddy B. Wood and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Businesses seen in the picture include W&J Sloane, Southern Railway ticket office, W.M. Frank Thyson Real Estate, Consumers Company, M. Tudor Morsell Real Estate, W.F. Roberts Company, A.C. Wiley Real Estate, Nejib Hekimian Inc., F.B. Keech & Co., and Marie Louise Hat Shop.

The only buildings seen in this picture that still exist are the Union Trust Building and the rear portion of the Dolly Madison House (1516 H Street, on the far right; now a contributing property to the Lafayette Square Historic District).
