Description
English: Following an extreme heatwave which has now lasted several days, broad swathes of Argentina are struggling with severe wildfires. On 23 January there were more than 1,000 active fires in the Corrientes Province in northern Argentina, where large areas of pasture and forests have been affected and as much as 10,000 hectares burnt. The situation on 23 January was observed by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites, which captured this image of fires ongoing near Ituzaingó, a city in the Corrientes Province. With a revisit time of five days on average at the equator, the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites deliver free and open data that can be used to monitor wildfires and their impact on land and vegetation.
