Summary[edit]

Description Wild fire area, N Hörken, Ljusnarsberg, Sweden. When an area of the stem is severe injured and the bark and some of the sap wood are killed by the fire, the tree can not protect itself against the insects attack. If enough bark persist on the other side of the tree it may still survive, but with reduced increment growth and a big fire scare. The surviving sap wood under the scare will fill up with resin and be very resistant towards insects and fungi. If so, the scares will be easily seen in this tree and in its neighbor trees for many hundred years if they will not be cut down before that...
