English: A wheat train on Ellen Street, Port Pirie, South Australia, looking south. The information accompanying the photograph indicates it was taken very soon after the opening of the Port Pirie–Gladstone narrow gauge railway line in 1875. A diminutive steam locomotive is boiler-first at the end of a rake of small open wagons carrying bagged grain, most likely from the hinterland (the main reason for the line's construction). Men and boys are standing for the camera in the dirt street; a dog sits. Two horse-drawn wagons are visible, one probably a water cart. Two stone buildings – one the Port Pirie Hotel – are adjacent. |

The image originates in a low-resolution download available free of charge from the State Library of South Australia (SLSA) website – see "Source". The library's web page states that a higher-resolution image is available for purchase from them. I improved some exposure, contrast and other values and removed some blemishes, dust and chemical marks before uploading to Wikimedia Commons. The original image with flaws is available from the SLSA website, https://collections.slsa.sa.gov.au/.
