tmtm m 98 WHAT TO DO FOR UNCLE SAM be a splendid help for the street cleaning de-partment. In the summer keep the grass in good conditionand well cut along the edge of the curbing. Thegrass growing around the letter box on the cor-ner often is tramped down so that it dies. Newturf may be put in, and will be one sign that youare helping the Government to keep the streetsbeautiful as well as safe. Loose papers shouldbe picked up and put in the paper cans. Thecountry boy can make a road drag, and ask hisboy neighbors to help him use it. A split logmakes a good one, and if it is used after everyrain, just as the road is beginning to dry, it willmake a smooth, hard bed. Using such a drag isvery important on a dirt road. It serves to makethe road slope away from the center, which givesit good drainage. The greatest help that boys and girls can givein the streets is in keeping them safe.
