| Description |
English: Westminster Bridge Completed in 1862 to the designs of the architect Thomas Page the bridge consists of seven spans of cast iron arches, capped with wrought iron, the widest being 120 feet, or about 37 metres, and the narrowest 96 feet, or about 29 metres. It had been intended that Queen Victoria would open the bridge, but the death of Prince Albert the year before meant that she was still in mourning, and the bridge was opened to the public without ceremony at the precise time (3.45 am) and day (24 May) of her birth. |
